Phoenix Manual Therapy Long Term Course 2011-2012

The Phoenix Manual Therapy long-term class was initiated to fill the void between weekend classes with no accountability or demonstration of learning applicable skills and formal residency programs.  The intent is to bring an instructional vehicle to the Phoenix area to allow Physical Therapists to learn orthopedic manual therapy skills without having to leave the valley to participate in a residency, or out of state long term class.  This course has been effectively delivering that goal since 1986.

Long Term Course Principle

The course runs over the span of 8 months, with 6 separate sessions of class meetings. The bulk of the class time is hands on practical application with instructor/student ratio never more than 8/1, typically less.   The classes typically have been approximately 4-6 weeks apart with reading and practice expectations in between meeting sessions.  The orientation is practical and case studies are an essential element.

Goal

The goal will be to cover the entire spine as well as the hip & shoulder joints in a format that will encompass the Australian dynamic thinking model from assessment, treatment decisions, technique selection, reassessment, treatment progression, self- treatment selection, exercise, long-term management, education, and discharge.  There will be an integration of soft tissue mobilization and dynamic exercise progression for spinal control, often referred to as spinal stabilization and Norwegian techniques.

Tuition/Registration

Registration is on a first come first served basis and is limited to ensure instructor/student ratio remain at or below approximately 8/1.

The total cost for the 6-session course is $2400.00. For convenience, the tuition is broken into installments.   Registration is completed with a $600.00 down-payment, and an additional  $600.00 is due at the first session.   As such you will have paid $1200.00 by the start of the class. Prior to the 4th class session the final $1200 installment is due and full payment will be completed. The tuition is split into calendar years to accommodate those who are interested and have an annual allocation of continuing education funding.

Alternative arrangements must be approved prior to registration.

Early and repeat registration discounts:

Registration prior to July 1 will be discounted $200, making the resultant fee $2200.

Registration prior to July 1 with payment in full will be discounted $400, making the resultant fee $2000.

Repeat registration: those enrolling for a second time will recieve a 10% discount.

Early registration for repeat enrollees can be coupled to recieve a 20% discount of the total making the resultant fee $1920.

There is no individual session fee; rather it is course tuition so as to keep the continuum in the class. Once enrolled in the class each student is responsible for the entirety of the tuition.  Each member of the class is relying on the other members of the class for the financial commitment to make it possible to bring this course to them.  Once a class begins there is no latitude to add a student at any midpoint, as they would not be at the same learning point as the remainder of the class.

Those applying for course application to their pursuit of a transitional DPT degree via NAU should apply directly through the university.  The contact person is Lori Kronnenberger, PT, DPT.  You should also complete the registration form and forward it to Phoenix Manual Therapy.
