Treatment Examples
Lumbar mobilization into flexion and rotation A segment of the spine is stabilized with the therapist's right hand while the lower portion of the table is moved in a way that facilitates flexion and rotation of the spinal segments below. This technique can also be used to target the soft tissues of the spine. |
Thoracic passive mobilization A rubber wedge is placed over a segement of the thoracic spine with the spinous process in the central hollow groove of the wedge. The therapist then delivers a force directed towards the table which facilitates movement of that spinal segment. |
Thoracic active mobilization The purpose of this technique is to facilitate mobilization of the thoracic spine by utilizing active movement by the patient as opposed to passively by the therapist. The wedge is used to stabilize a segment. As the patient lifts their face from the table, the segments above the wedge move. |
Hip lateral distraction This is a technique that facilitates a targeted mobilization of the hip joint capsule, as opposed to the muscles. By placing the mobilization belt as closely to the hip joint as possible and then around the therapist, the therapist can easily create space within the hip joint. |

Mobilization of Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) and stretch of mandibular muscles These are gentle techniques. Very fine, small range movements are used to increase mobility of a tight joint. Light touch stretching is designed to improve opening of the lower jaw. |

Soft tissue mobilization of muscles of mastication Light, gentle soft tissue relaxation & myofascial stretch. These are designed to reduce muscle tightness and pain. |

Coordination Exercises Patients are instructed in pain free exercises to coordinate function of muscles on both sides of the jaw |
